The AH&MRC has 4 membership regions across NSW: Metropolitan, Northern, Southern and Western.
Membership types
Members
Members are Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHSs) led by their respective Aboriginal communities to deliver comprehensive and culturally appropriate primary health care services.
Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHSs) are non-profit incorporated Aboriginal community-controlled organisations operating in the State which:
- Provide holistic and culturally appropriate primary health care and Aboriginal health-related services to the community which it serves
- Are governed by an Aboriginal Board of Management elected by a local Aboriginal community membership
Associate Members
Associate Members are Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Committee’s (ACCHCs) or Aboriginal Community Control Health-Related Services (ACCHRSs) are led by their respective Aboriginal communities to deliver comprehensive and culturally appropriate health-related services.
An Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Committee (ACCHC) is a non-profit incorporated Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation operating in the State which:
- Is initiated in, elected and governed by a local Aboriginal community with the objective of establishing an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service.
All Members (Ordinary and Associate) will be entitled to support and assistance from the AH&MRC in the following areas:
Governance and Management
The AH&MRC provides regular governance training to its membership for all regulatory bodies. We provide support for Members in understanding the Acts, the Rule Books and Constitutions, the sequence of a Board Meeting and Financial Report reading and interpretation.
Strategic Advice and Support
The AH&MRC assist our Membership with their Strategic Plans and business support. The AH&MRC looks at grant and funding opportunities and assists in applications. We assist in policy submissions and advocacy to key Ministers and Stakeholders.
Data, Research and Evidence
The AH&MRC has a dedicated support team to assist with Member’s Clinical Governance and Medicare claims. We can assist in data cleansing of the Patient Information Management Systems (PIMS). The AH&MRC has interests in Research with its Human Resource Ethics Committee (HREC) which continues to grow and reviews a high volume of applications relating to Aboriginal Health. The AH&MRC, in its advocacy efforts, would require data evidence from its Members to be able to assist. The AH&MRC understands data sovereignty.
Education and Workforce
The AH&MRC has a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to increase the skills of our Membership’s workforce. Our RTO courses are Nationally Accredited and AHPRA Accredited.
Communication and Engagement
The AH&MRC can assist with communication and marketing activities including advertising Member’s job opportunities and creating resources that are relevant and engaging for Aboriginal communities.
COVID-19
The AH&MRC have regular meetings and contact with the NSW Ministry of Health and have regular communications with our Membership through fortnightly teleconferences in conjunction with NSW Ministry of Health, Centre for Aboriginal Health to support our Members and ensure all Members were able to stay open with enough supply of PPE, hand sanitisers and COVID Safe plans.
Member Obligations
Members have the right to receive notices of and attend and be heard at any Annual General Meetings and an Ordinary Member has the right to vote at the Annual General Meetings. As a Member (Ordinary or Associate), you must comply with Clause 4.11 of the AH&MRC Constitution, which states that:
Each Member must notify the Secretary of any change in the name, address, telephone, facsimile number or email address of the Member within 1 month after the change.
The Directors or the Secretary may request information from any Member as to its continuing eligibility for membership or to ensure that its books and records are accurate and up to date.
