AH&MRC continues to partner with the ALIGN team and ACCHOs across NSW to support Aboriginal leadership in genomics and precision medicine.
Community visits, workshops and ongoing engagement over the past two years, have helped shape an Aboriginal-led approach that prioritises cultural safety, Aboriginal data sovereignty and community governance when using genomics in healthcare.
As part of this work, ALIGN has released a new animated resource, Genomics Our Way: Precision Medicine Explained, which provides a clear and accessible introduction to genomics and precision medicine.
The animation was developed through the NSW Precision Medicine Initiative and reflects the perspectives and priorities shared by Aboriginal communities during the co-design process.
It explains how genomics may help deliver more personalised healthcare in the future, while highlighting the importance of Aboriginal leadership and decision-making in genomic research and healthcare programs.
This resource may be useful for:
- Community education and engagement activities
- Discussions about genomics and precision medicine within ACCHOs
- Supporting workforce development and staff awareness
As genomics becomes increasingly integrated into healthcare, resources such as this can help ensure Aboriginal communities, health workers and health services are well informed and positioned to guide how these technologies are used in ways that benefit Aboriginal people.
