Our People to Live Stronger & Longer

Now’s the Time to Protect Yourself Against Pneumococcal Disease

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults can now access a free pneumococcal vaccine from 25 years of age, compared with the previous eligibility age of 50 years. A new vaccine has also been added to the National Immunisation Program, providing protection against more strains of pneumococcal disease.

Pneumococcal disease can cause serious illnesses including pneumonia, meningitis and bloodstream infections. Vaccination is a safe and effective way to reduce your risk of severe disease.

👉 If you’re 25 years or older, yarn with your Aboriginal Medical Service today to check your eligibility and book your free pneumococcal vaccination. Encourage your family and community members to do the same.
