From Audit to Action: Strengthening ARF and RHD Diagnosis in Aboriginal Health

Dr Marion Tait, Dr Silberberg, and Prof Anna Ralph—infectious diseases specialist and co-editor of the national ARF/RHD guidelines—led a practical session on improving detection and management of Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF) and Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) in Aboriginal communities.

The session explored:

  • Audit findings from Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services in Northern NSW
  • The potential underdiagnosis of ARF and RHD in NSW
  • Strengthening care for streptococcal throat and skin infections
  • Using the ARF/RHD app to support diagnosis and management
  • Applying national guidelines in real-world practice

This session is ideal for AMS staff, GPs, and health professionals working in Aboriginal health who want to take action and build capacity to improve outcomes for their communities.
