AH&MRC is committed to supporting our Member Services and communities in preparing for and responding to disasters and critical incidents that impact health and wellbeing. We recognise the increasing risks our communities face from climate change, extreme weather events, and other emergencies. Recent events have shown us that strong preparation can make a real difference.
Our Disaster Response webpages are being developed to provide culturally appropriate information, resources, and support links to help strengthen resilience across Aboriginal communities in NSW.
PREVENT
Prevention is defined as regulatory and physical measures to ensure that emergencies are prevented, or their potential effects mitigated.
PREPAREDNESS
Preparedness refers to planning and preparing for emergencies before they occur, such as developing and testing emergency plans, training, educating and sharing information to prepare communities for an emergency.
RESPONSE
The Response phase refers to measures taken to respond to an emergency or disaster. This includes actions taken and measures planned in anticipation of, during, and immediately after an emergency to ensure that its effects are minimised and that persons affected by the emergency are given immediate relief and support when it is safe to do so.
RECOVERY
Recovery is the process of coming to terms with the impacts of a disaster and managing the disruptions and changes caused, which can result, for some people, in a new way of living. It is usually measured in months and/or years.
Join AH&MRC Emergency Response Committee.
AH&MRC Emergency Resources have been developed to support planning and preparedness for future emergencies and natural disasters.
The AH&MRC Public Health team is also seeking Expressions of Interest (EOIs) to join the AH&MRC Emergency Response Committee. This committee will play a key role in guiding our emergency response efforts across the sector.
We invite CEOs, Operations Managers, individuals in leadership positions, and sector specialists to express their interest in contributing to this important work. Your involvement would be highly valued, and we would love to hear from you if you’re interested in participating.
