The Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council (AH&MRC) is dedicated to assisting Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHSs) across the four regions (Metropolitan, Northern, Southern and Western) of NSW to ensure they have access to an adequately resourced and skilled workforce enabling the ACCHSs to provide their local Aboriginal communities with holistic and culturally appropriate primary health care and Aboriginal health-related services.

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and committed Close the Gap Project Leader to lead Stage 2 of the National Skilled Agreement Close the Gap (NSA CtG) initiative in NSW. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Department of Education and NSW Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCO) to develop an Implementation Plan Proposal for state and federal Ministerial approval.
You will coordinate and lead strategic discussions with both ACCOs and the Government to shape sustainable VET funding priorities. Additionally, you will work to enhance the operations of ACCRTOs, driving improvements that result in better education and employment outcomes for Aboriginal VET students across NSW.
Responsibilities:
- Lead an NSW VET ACCO Community of Practice to develop the NSW NSA CtG Stage 2 Implementation plan.
- Organise strategic planning meetings with the Department of Education and NSW VET ACCO Strategic Leadership for approval of key activities.
- Support long-term sustainability of the NSW ACCRTO sector, including shared RTO operations, student support models, and VET expansion.
- Identify and coordinate opportunities for relationships between industry, government, and ACCOs to achieve CtG Priority Reform areas.
- Partner with government, industry, and corporate agencies for co-funding Aboriginal-led VET Training in NSW.
- Develop strategies to secure long-term funding for ACCRTOs under National Skills Agreement priority areas.
- Ensure NSA compliance with funding agreements, governance, and reporting.
- Continuously improve NSA CtG implementation and contribute to risk management strategies that enhance operational resilience and financial sustainability.
Essential Criteria
Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualification in related field.
- Demonstrated policy development experience working with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations or Aboriginal communities.
- Experience in policy development or advocacy, particularly in Aboriginal affairs, workforce development, or government-funded programs.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with expertise in partnership development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated project planning, coordination, and reporting capability.
- Knowledge of workforce requirements in the ACCHO sector and Aboriginal services in Health NSW.
- Proven experience in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, including familiarity with training package development, RTO operations, or sector governance.
- Background in working within a collective impact or community of practice framework.
