The Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council (AH&MRC) is dedicated to assisting Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHSs) across the four regions (Metropolitan, Northern, Southern and Western) of NSW to ensure they have access to an adequately resourced and skilled workforce enabling the ACCHSs to provide their local Aboriginal communities with holistic and culturally appropriate primary health care and Aboriginal health-related services.

About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and strategic Close the Gap Project Coordinator to manage the implementation of the National Skills Agreement – Closing the Gap (NSA CtG) initiative in New South Wales for the Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council of NSW (AH&MRC). In this role, you will coordinate VET priorities across the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHO) in NSW and advocating for sustainable funding for the AH&MRC RTO.
As an NSA CtG Project Coordinator, you will strengthen partnerships with Government agencies, Industry, Universities, and VET Providers to enhance workforce development pathways and create lasting opportunities for Aboriginal communities.
Key Responsibilities
Business Growth & Strategic Planning:
- Develop a detailed NSA CtG Stage 2 AH&MRC Implementation Plan proposal.
- Support strategic planning aligned with other ACCORTO Stage 2 activities.
- Contribute to long-term AH&MRC RTO sustainability strategies, including shared services and sector expansion.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Establish and maintain relationships with industry partners, employers, and government bodies to support AH&MRC NSA CtG strategies.
- Negotiate with government agencies, industry associations, and corporate clients for partnership and co-funding opportunities.
- Collaborate across ACCRTO networking to develop funding strategies for business operations.
Student Recruitment & Marketing Strategy:
- Support the development of culturally responsive training (both accredited and non-accredited) that aligns with the needs of the current and future ACCHO workforce and their communities.
- Participate in AH&MRC initiatives aimed at enhancing enrolment, retention, and completion outcomes through student-centred supports.
Compliance & Contract Management:
- Monitor NSA CtG Stage 1 implementation and integrate findings into Stage 2 planning.
- Ensure NSA compliance with funding agreements, governance frameworks, and reporting obligations.
- Contribute to evaluations and continuous improvements per NSA CtG Contract requirements.
Financial & Risk Management:
- Identify cross-government funding opportunities to enhance AH&MRC RTO operations.
- Review and recommend improvements to NSW VET funding models for ACCHO workforce growth.
- Contribute to risk management strategies to boost operational resilience and financial sustainability of the AH&MRC RTO.
Essential Criteria
Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualification in related field.
- Demonstrated policy development experience working with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations or Aboriginal communities.
- Experience in policy development or advocacy, particularly in Aboriginal workforce development, or government-funded programs.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with expertise in partnership development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated project planning, coordination, and reporting capability.
- Knowledge of workforce requirements in the ACCHO sector and Aboriginal services in Health NSW.
- Proven experience in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, including familiarity with training package development, RTO operations, or sector governance.
- Background in working within a collective impact or community of practice framework.
