The Aboriginal Medical Service Cooperative Limited (AMS Redfern) was established in 1971 and was the first Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) in Australia. We are a multi-disciplinary health care facility with Medical, Chronic Care, Drug & Alcohol, Mental Health, Dental and Public Health units. We work together to provide a high level of patient care whilst servicing our local community needs.
About the role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a new Child and Family Health Registered Nurse to join the AMS Redfern.
As the Child and Family Health Registered Nurse you will be responsible for:
- Undertaking comprehensive assessments, developing care plans, providing a safe and responsive quality nursing practice, and monitoring and evaluating progress towards goals and outcomes for children ages 0-5 years old and their families.
- Completing health and development checks for children, providing referrals and coordinating comprehensive care with a multidisciplinary team and/or other required stakeholders.
- Managing patient referrals, waitlists and bookings, administering vaccinations, interpreting and following up on diagnostic test results and reports, and continuously monitoring and evaluating nursing care provided.
- Engaging with children and their families in a culturally safe and respectful way, fostering open, honest and compassionate professional relationships.
- Providing information and education to families to enable them to make decisions, implement treatment plans and follow up care.
- Providing emotional and psychological support to children and their families and advocacy throughout their care and treatment.
- Carrying out nursing practice in accordance with legislation, standards, codes and guidelines and demonstrating a commitment to continuing professional development.
What we are looking for
- Demonstrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness and knowledge.
- Postgraduate qualification relevant to the role of a Child and Family Health Nurse (or currently enrolled in a tertiary course with completion within 12 months of employment) and/or a minimum of 5 years equivalent work experience in child and family health.
- Authorised Nurse Immuniser or willingness to obtain certification.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and experience building therapeutic and professional relationships.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, Best Practice software and/or ability to learn new systems.
- Completion of a Bachelor of Nursing and registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
- Valid Working with Children Check, National Police Check and evidence of health vaccinations.
