Our services address both mental and physical health needs, and we are looking for a passionate individual to join our team as a Suicide Prevention Peer Worker.
The Opportunity:
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Suicide Prevention Peer Worker to provide culturally sensitive support to individuals at risk of suicide or who have experienced suicidal ideation. As a Peer Worker, you will draw on your own lived experience to connect with clients, offering guidance, emotional support, and practical resources. This role is vital to our mission of creating a safe and supportive environment for those who need it most.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct peer support to people in suicidal crisis using lived experience to inspire hope, reduce isolation, and promote recovery.
- Assist with safety planning, psychosocial support, and connecting clients to relevant services in the community.
- Work collaboratively with mental health professionals, Aboriginal Health Workers, and other peer workers to offer integrated support.
- Participate in quality improvement and advocacy activities to strengthen service delivery.
- Contribute to the development and evaluation of suicide prevention programs.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and peer supervision.
About You:
- Personal lived experience of suicidal crisis or suicide attempt, and ability to draw on this to offer peer support.
- Understanding of recovery-oriented, trauma-informed care and suicide prevention strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on building strong connections with clients.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Desirable: experience working in community-based health or social support settings.
- Desirable: Willingness to work towards Certificate IV in Mental Health.
