About Biripi:

 

Biripi Aboriginal Corporation Medical Centre (Biripi ACMC) is a community controlled organisation funded by numerous Agencies and levels of Government. Biripi ACMC is based in Taree NSW and employs over 100 staff members which provides a wide range of culturally appropriate health and well-being services covering communities across the Mid-Northern NSW Region. These include; Clinical, Maternal Health, Aged and Community Care, Community Health and Dental Health Services from Clinics and Facilities around Taree and Statutory Out of Home Care (OOHC) through Biripi Aboriginal Children Services (BACS) in Taree and Walanbaa Gaayili in Inverell.
About the role:

 

The General Practitioner position is responsible for providing Aboriginal people with routine health care and medical service to improve the health and wellbeing of the Aboriginal community. Reporting to the Health Services Manager, you will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide appropriate, quality health care and medical services to the Aboriginal community whilst ensure organisational objectives and standards of care are met.

 

The key objectives of the role include:

 

  • Provide health care and medical service to the Aboriginal community
  • Provide appropriate assessment and treatment programs to improve health care and medical services to Biripi patients
  • Maximise Medicare revenue and ensure compliance with MBS schedule
  • Assist in health promotion and education activities to ensure the effective promotion of health issues in the Aboriginal community

 

Skills and experience
Essential:

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Medicine
  • Unrestricted registration with AHPRA
  • Unconditional registration with the NSW Medical Board
  • Appropriate experience to practice as a Medical Practitioner
  • Demonstrated experience in the assessment and treatment of patients
  • Sound knowledge in the areas of community health, public health and Aboriginal health including preventative and holistic health, social and emotional wellbeing, chronic disease, etc.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with the local community
  • Sound understanding of AGPAL accreditation requirements and medicare MBS
  • Demonstration of continuously developing professional competencies and qualifications
  • Ability to hold all relevant security clearances including National Police Check and Working with Children clearance

 

Desirable:

 

  • Relevant post-graduate qualifications – FRACGP, FACCRM, MPH
  • Accreditation as a General Practitioner supervisor, with ACCRM or RACGP
  • Experience working with health services agencies, non-government organisations, community groups and medical professionals at all levels
  • Experience working in Aboriginal Health
  • Current valid Driver’s Licence, minimum of Class “C” or equivalent
  • Aboriginality
  • Minimum Certificate IV qualification in Community Services related discipline or willingness to obtain within 6 months
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in Community Services
  • Sound knowledge of community health, public health and Aboriginal health
  • Experience working with health service agencies, non-government organisation, community groups and medical professionals at all levels
  • Ability to build relationships with all levels of the organisation and the community
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly within tight time schedules and in accordance with variable workload demands
  • Ability to hold all relevant security clearances including National Police Check and Working with Children clearance
  • Current valid Driver’s license, minimum of Class “C” or equivalent
