Bourke Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (BACHS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service providing primary health care services initiated and operated by the local Aboriginal community to deliver holistic, comprehensive, and culturally appropriate health care to the community. BAHCS provides a variety of programs under a Primary Health Care model and also offers Visiting Specialist Services.
BACHS offers a great team environment as well as ongoing training and development opportunities. We are seeking a new Aboriginal Family Health Worker with a passion for making a real difference in Aboriginal health.
In this role you will be responsible for enhancing, empowering and engaging Aboriginal families, communities and relevant agencies to take control and work together, to reduce the occurrence of family/domestic violence, sexual assault, child sexual assault and physical and emotional abuse and neglect of children and young people within Aboriginal communities.
The key objectives of the role include:
- Establish a working group/project committee with a Terms of Reference that has equal community representation and participation of members to assist in the identification of needs and the development of strategies that will address family/domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault.
- Actively work and network with relevant members of the community towards reducing the prevalence of domestic/family violence, child abuse and sexual assault.
- Develop sustainable support strategies and projects in collaboration with other departments and agencies that are in line with local and cultural needs.
- Provide and/or facilitate awareness workshops for the community and families on family/domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault.
To succeed in this role you will need demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in family violence prevention and a sound knowledge of community health, public health and Aboriginal Health. This could also be a good opportunity for an individual who wants to undertake support training and qualifications in the Aboriginal Health space.
You will also need:
- Minimum Certificate IV qualification in Aboriginal Family Wellbeing & Violence Prevention Work or willingness to commence immediately.
- Experience working with health service agencies, non-government organisation, community groups and medical professionals at all levels.
- Ability to build relationships with all levels of the organisation and the community.
- High level of written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work flexibly within tight time schedules and in accordance with variable workload demands.
- Current valid driver’s license, minimum of Class “C” or equivalent.
- Ability to hold all relevant security clearances including the National Police Check and Working with Children clearance.
