The AH&MRC participated in the Illawarra Aboriginal Medical Services (IAMS) Community Event, at the Dapto Showgrounds on 5 October.  Colin McGrath of the Health Programs Team, Sylvia Akusah from the AH&MRC’s Training College, as well as trainees Chloe Davis and Jacob Bloomfield, represented the AH&MRC at the event.

The AH&MRC set up a stall at the community event and engaged with the local community members who came to the stall and participated in competitions and games related to the Your Health Your Future (YHYF), the AH&MRC’s AOD and Mental Health programs.

Prizes were awarded to participants of the competitions and giveaways presented to community members who engaged with our staff.

The event was overshadowed by the threat of torrential rain, but luckily it only rained a little. So, what was looking like there would not be an event at all due to the weather turned into a successful event for the IAMS.

IAMS must be congratulated and applauded for their efforts in creating a fantastic event which included a Welcome to Country, Doonooch Aboriginal dance group, Torres Strait Islander dance group, the Aboriginal band   many stall holders from a variety of stakeholders and health sector bodies, dodgem cars, octopus, pony rides, face painting, free food and beverages.
