This position will lead AH&MRC’s strategic collaboration with external stakeholders the need to build strategic partnerships in line with AHMRC strategic plan and Government Frameworks. Including governments, Primary Health Networks (PHNs) and mainstream state wide non government health service providers to improve access, responsiveness and quality of culturally safe primary health care services to NSW Aboriginal communities. The position is based in the Government Partnerships and Policy unit, and will work closely with the Policy Officers positions and with other business units in the AH&MRC as appropriate.

Responsibilities include

  • Lead the development of a strategic framework partnership with the AH&MRC member services  to influence mainstream services to deliver culturally safe care
  • Lead the development of strategic policy partnerships and activities with NSW and National policy advocates, under the direction of the Government Partnerships and Policy Unit Manager
  • Contribute to the AH&MRC’s policy impact by establishing relationships and internal processes to influence on the NSW government’s policy development, under the direction of the Government Partnerships and Policy manager
  • Develop and coordinate implementation of an external stakeholder communication &  engagement strategy for AHMRC policy partners
  • Provide advice to state and federal governments on mainstream health reforms through committee and forum representation, along side other policy officers
  • Represent the AHMRC and support partnership development with Primary Health Networks (PHNs) and other primary health care service providers
  • Support the development of partnerships and activities with other NSW Aboriginal peak organisations
  • Provide input into service mapping and needs assessments of AH&MRC members

Essential criteria

  1. Tertiary qualification in health or a related field or equivalent work/study experience
  2. An understanding of Aboriginal health policy development, implementation and evaluation
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal people and organisations, government and non government stakeholder regardless of seniority
  4. Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills, and a demonstrated ability to consult, influence and liaise with internal and external stakeholders
  5. Capacity to manage competing projects and achieve results within budget and timeframe
  6. Demonstrated commitment to health equity for Aboriginal people and Aboriginal self determination
  7. Understanding of NSW political and policy processes
  8. Current Class C driver’s licence
